BDT Stage presents FOREVER PLAID. Featuring great songs from the 50’s & 60’s sung in 4-part, close harmony; four lads sing their way into the beyond and into your hearts. Shows are Thu-Sat evenings and Sunday matinees. The bass is quite prominently featured in this show.
Late 2019-mid 2021
So much happened in this period of time. What didn’t happen was me adding any events to this list!!
I played guitar Mama Mia! at BDT Stage in late 2019. In Jan of 2020, Rubber Souls played at the Buffalo Rose. That was our last show with drummer Scott Roush. I was going to play a show in Nederland on March 11, 2020, but that was the first COVID cancellation. Looking back, it’s such a relief as that would have been a super-spreader, for sure.
That was when the gigs stopped cold, and ALL lessons went to Zoom and Skype. After some months, there were several carefully planned, covid-safe performances and video streams.
Hamster Theatre did a live-stream (COVID-safe) performance on June 19, 2020 from Colin Bricker’s excellent space, NFA (Notably Fine Audio). September 25, Zimbira played a masked/distanced outdoor concert at Fresh Thymes. October 3, 2020 Zimbira recorded a performance at Denver’s Unitarian Church- that was streamed on Oct 24, and available afterward for a limited time. October 21, 2020, Zimbira did a masked/distanced live stream show at Westview Church, Daniel Lockley’s last show before his move. On December 11, 2020, I recorded several songs with some BDT Stage cast members for the holidays that were uploaded to a popular video streaming site.
In mid-February of 2021, I taught a Digital Music class at Dawson School for a semester. That provided me with an earlier opportunity to get vaccinated.
On April 10, I joined the wonderful songwriter, Kimmjae Macarus, and extraordinary bass player Kent McLagan for a live show and stream from East Simpson Coffee.
On May 7, BDT Stage opened their production of Forever Plaid. My debut on fretless bass. I’m running it through a gizmo that emulates an upright bass quite effectively.
On Juneteeth, 2021 (the first year it is recognized as a federal holiday), Kutandara played at a festival in Erie, followed by Zimbira playing its second outdoor show at Fresh Thymes.
Pheew! And with that, we are brought back up to date!!!
